THE VALLEY — Week 2 of the Pa. football season kicks off tonight with Athens opening its home schedule, and Sayre playing its second game in a row on the road.

The Wildcats will host Northwest Area, while Sayre travels to take on North Penn-Mansfield.

Northwest Area (0-1) at Athens (0-1), 7 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 26-13 loss to South Williamsport, while the Rangers dropped a 42-6 decision to Canton.

Athens ran the ball for 191 yards against a tough Mounties defense, with sophomore QB Connor Davidson leading the way with 116 yards and one TD, and junior tailback Eli Chapman adding 73 yards and one TD.

Davidson also threw for 67 yards, with junior Adam Kemp’s two receptions a team high.

The Rangers allowed 374 yards in total offense to Canton in Week 1, including 240 rushing yards.

Sayre (0-1) at North Penn-Mansfield, 7 p.m.: The Redskins are coming off an 84-12 loss at Troy, while the Tigers dropped a 37-12 decision to Wyalusing.

The Redskins threw for 119 yards, and rushed for 92 yards in the loss to Troy.

Senior Nick Pellicano was Sayre’s big weapon with an 84-yard TD return on the opening kickoff, and a 79-yard TD catch less then 3 minutes later.

NP-M managed just 110 yards in total offense in Week 1, including only 27 rushing yards.

The Tigers allowed 243 rushing yards in the loss to Wyalusing
