Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — A trio of New York State Valley teams open their respective 2024 seasons on a day that features home girls soccer matches at Athens and Tioga.
GIRLS SOCCER
Williamson (1-2) at Athens (2-0), 5:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 3-1 win at Towanda Thursday, and play their first home match today against a Warriors team that is coming off a 4-0 loss to Selinsgrove.
Marathon at Tioga, 6 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off one of the best seasons in program history, posting a 9-6 record, which included a Class C playoff win over Unatego
The Olympians were 10-6-1 in 2023, and also won a Class C playoff game.
Waverly at Norwich, 5:30 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a 6-8-1 season — their first in the STAC. It ended with a loss to former IAC rival Dryden in the opening round of the Class B playoffs.
The Purple Lions were 3-11 in 2023, and lost to Owego in the opening round of the Class A playoffs.
FIELD HOCKEY
Tioga at Owego, 4:30 p.m.: The River Hawks are coming off a 7-9 season in 2023, while the Tigers were 3-13 last season.
