SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: TIOGA FALLS TO OWEGO IN SEASON-OPENER (24 PHOTOS) (2024-09-04) Valley Sports Report OWEGO — Ashleigh Steele netted four goals, and Aubrey Schmidt added three goals to lead Owego to a season-opening, 11-1, win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in Section IV field hockey action.
The River Hawks scored two goals in the first quarter, then put five into the net in the second quarter to take a 7-1 lead into the halftime intermission.
Junior Abby Engelbert put Tioga on the board with 4:49 remaining in the first half on the Tigers’ only shot-on-goal of the game.
Owego had an 18-1 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 16-1 edge in penalty corners.
Bella Pursell recorded 12 saves in net for the Tigers.
Owego returns to action Friday when it hosts Susquehanna Valley. Game time is 5 p.m.
