Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — A trio of boys soccer matches, including home games for Tioga and Waverly, a “home” volleyball match for Waverly at Sayre, and Waverly’s first-ever STAC boys golf match highlight a busy Thursday.
BOYS SOCCER
Athens (1-2) at Williamson (4-1), 4 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 1-0 loss to Wellsboro Tuesday, while the Warriors rolled over NEB, 8-2.
Williamson’s lone loss was a 3-0 setback at home against Towanda.
Southern Cayuga at Tioga, 4:30 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a 10-0 loss at Marathon Tuesday, while the Chiefs are coming off a 16-2 season that included a win over Tioga in the IAC Small School championship game, and ended with a loss to Seton Catholic in the Section IV, Class C title game.
Norwich at Waverly (0-1), 7 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a 6-0 loss at Elmira Tuesday night, while the Purple Tornado opens the season.
VOLLEYBALL
Oneonta vs. Waverly, 5:30 p.m. JV start @ Sayre H.S.: The Wolverines, forced to play their home games this season at Sayre and Tioga due to the gym renovation at Waverly, are coming off a 6-10 season, while Oneonta was 9-9.
Both teams had their seasons end in the opening round of the Section IV, Class B playoffs.
Athens (1-1) at North Penn-Liberty (3-1), 6 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 3-0 loss to Troy, while the Mounties, who opened the season with three consecutive sweeps, dropped a 3-0 decision to Williamsport.
Sayre (0-2) at NEB (3-0) 6 p.m. JV start: The Redskins are coming off a 3-0 loss to Wellsboro, while the Panthers have won all three of their matches via sweep, including Hughesville on Tuesday.
BOYS GOLF
Windsor at Waverly, 4 p.m. @ Shepard Hills: After having three matches postponed, Waverly will finally begin its time in the STAC this afternoon at Shepard Hills.
It’s also the first dual match of the season for Windsor, which finished 14th out of 15 teams at the DiNunzio Memorial Tournament last week.
