NTL VOLLEYBALL: ATHENS PLAYS NP-LIBERTY CLOSE IN 3-0 LOSS (2024-09-06)
Valley Sports ReportLIBERTY — Athens played powerhouse North Penn-Liberty close, but dropped a 3-0 decision here Thursday night in NTL Large School Division volleyball action.
The Mountaineers won by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-22.
“Once we came out of our shell, the second and third games were neck-and-neck, point-for-point,” said Athens coach Heather Darrow.
“We had a couple hitting errors and serving errors,
however, we came back from them having a six-point lead on us,” she noted.
“There were so many bright spots and an exciting nail-biting game,” added Darrow. “It is coming together. We will get there.”
Senior Sydney Field led Athens with 19 setter assists, and 15 digs, while senior Kassie Babcock registered a team-high 10 kills and eight digs, and senior Ella Coyle recorded a team-high 20 digs, and three service aces
Senior Keaton Wiles had five kills and 17 digs for the Wildcats, while freshman Ellie Mosher had four kills and two digs, junior Regan McDaniel had three kills and three digs, senior Gretchen Schmieg added four digs, and senior Anna Geisinger chipped in with three digs.
Athens, now 1-2, returns to action Saturday at the Williamson Tournament.
