Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Senior Addy Wheeler and sophomore Delanie Patton combined for five goals and four assists to lead Athens to its fourth straight win to start the season, a 6-2 victory over North Penn-Mansfield in NTL girls soccer action here on a rainy Saturday morning at Alumni Stadium.
“This was another team win, where we spread the ball around and played good soccer on the floor,” said Athens coach Rich Pitts.
“We were up 2-0 at half, and I challenged us to put pressure higher up the field on them and we did, which turned into four goals,” he noted.
“We then subbed deep into the bench and everyone got some sort of minutes today in a wet, cold game,” he added.
Wheeler netted a hat trick for the Wildcats, and Patton added two goals, and doled out three assists.
Patton set up Wheeler for her first goal of the game with 17:42 remaining ni the first half, and Wheeler return the favor with an assist on Patton’s first goal with 6:15 left in the half.
Wheeler, off a feed from Patton, gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead just 25 seconds after the intermission, and Patton converted a penalty kick about seven minutes later to make it 4-0.
Wheeler completed her hat trick with 25:20 remaining to extend the lead to 5-0, and sophomore Brinley Nichols, off an assist from Patton, put the finishing touches on the Wildcats’ offense for the day just a few minutes later.
