ONEONTA — Senior Sara Bronson won gold here Saturday at the Flash Forbes Cross Country Invitational, leading five Valley girls place in the top 10.

The Wildcats finished second in the team standings with 77 placement points, with Delhi winning the team title with 62 points. Waverly finished eighth in the 12-team field with 198 points.

Bronson won in a time of 20:38.2, edging Maine-Endwell standout Cassie Burt by 1.5 seconds.

Waverly junior Mackenzie Chamberlain was sixth in 21:32, while Athens junior Ava Hughes was eight in 22:00.3, Athens freshman Alissa Vough was eighth in 22:13, and Waverly senior Harper Minaker was 10th in 22:15.7.

Athens sophomore Haylie Horton finished 28th in 24:51.4, while sophomore Grace Ellsworth was 39th in 25:46.3, freshman Tatyana Nasser was 87th in 33.10, senior Maryrose Bertsch was 91st in 34:02, and sophomore Joelle Vaughn was 92nd in 34:06.6.

Waverly sophomore Taylor Sinsabaugh finished 52nd in 26:47.1, while freshman Miah Correll was 88th in 33:12.6, and freshman Isabela Minaker was 94th in 34:18.4.

ATHENS BOYS FINISH FOURTH, WAVERLY NINTH

Sophomore Graham Wanck led three Athens runners in the top 20, helping the boys for a fourth-place finish in the team standings.

Oneonta ran away with the team title with 32 placement points, well ahead of runner-up Delhi, which had 95 points. Vestal was third with 98 points, Athens tallied 121 points, and Waverly was ninth with 230 points.

Wanck clocked in at 18:10.5 to finish 11th, while senior Ethan Hicks was 14th in 18:21, and sophomore Jacob Shores was 17th in 18:30.3,

Sophomore Matt Rossettie finished 35th in 19:40.4 for the Wildcats, while senior Gehrig Thurston was 57th in 21:30.1, senior Aiden Oldroyd was 74th in 22:59, and senior Pierce Oldroyd was 82nd in 24:00.3.

Sophomore Chase Hine led Waverly, finishing 21st in a time of 18:51.2, while junior Hayden Howe was 32nd in 19:30.8, senior Nic Mattison was 42nd in 20:17.8, freshman Hayden Montanye was 66th in 22:22.5, and sophomore Jayden Washington was 89th in 24:46.3.

Athens returns to action Tuesday at North Penn-Mansfield, then Waverly and Athens will both run at the Owego Night Invite on Friday.
