NTL JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL: ATHENS BLANKS WELLSBORO, 6-0, IN SEASON OPENER (2024-09-09)

WELLSBORO — Chase Gowin scored on Athens’ first possession of the game, and the Wildcat defense shut down Wellsboro in a 6-0 season-opening win here Thursday in NTL junior high football action.

The Wildcats, on the back of Gowin runs and two catches by Cy Yeager, drove 56 yards on its opening possession, with Gowin scoring on a 7-yard run to make it 6-0.

Later in the first half, Wellsboro took possession at the Athens 22 following short punt, but four plays resulted in four years and the Wildcats took over on downs.

The defense dominated the remainder of the game.

Gowin finished the game with 140 yards on 21 carries.

Athens travels to Troy Thursday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
