Valley Sports ReportATHENS — The Athens 8th-grade A and B teams both swept Williamson Wednesday night to remain unbeaten on the season in NTL junior high volleyball action.
“A”
Athens 25-25, Williamson 14-22Behind strong serving (96 percent), Athens won the first set 25-14. Madison Sinsabaugh served up 13 points, including three aces, while Kayla Forbes contributed with stellar defensive passing, and Emilynn McQuay’s presence at the net offensively led the team to a string of hits and side-out opportunities.
In the second set, Athens trailed 17-11, by Addison Moss served up five straight points, including a pair of aces, to trim the deficit to 17-16, and propelling the Wildcats to a 25-22 win.
Athens “A” is 5-0 on the season, and will travel to Wyalusing Monday.
“B”
Athens 25-25, Williamson 22-11Athens overcame a slow start, and rallied for a 25-22 win in the first set, then rolled to a 25-11 in the second set.
Evelyn Roy led the Wildcats with 23 service points, including 13 aces.
Athens “B” is 3-0 on the season.
MONDAY
“A”
Athens 25-25, Sayre 11-13Athens had a strong night at the service line (88 percent) on its way to a sweep of Sayre by scores of 25-11, and 25-13.
Key contributors included Madison Sinsabaugh (seven points, four aces), Jonica Walters (six points, two aces), Kayla Forbes (five points, two aces), Eden Fedorchak (four points, three aces) and Hailey Smith (four points, three aces).
The team's defensive efforts were bolstered by Kayla Forbes' passing.
7th-Grade “B”
Athens 25-25, Sayre 15-12
The Athens 7th-grade “B” earned its first win of the season, topping Sayre by scores of 25-15 and 25-12.
The Wildcats were led by Auriana Welch, who had 15 points, including 11 service aces, Natalie Yale (six points, two aces), and Alayna Lackey (four points, three aces), and the passing of Hannah Behm.
