STAC BOYS SOCCER: SETON CATHOLIC RIDES BIG FIRST HALF TO 10-0 WIN OVER WAVERLY (2024-09-16)

Valley Sports Report
BINGHAMTON — Seton Catholic scored eight first-half goals on its way to a 10-0 win over Waverly here Monday night in STAC Central Division boys soccer action.

Waverly’s first-year coach Jon Rankin said the Wolverines got off to a good start, but the Saints took control early.

“We started out hot with two goal-scoring opportunities in the first minute of the first half,” he said. “After that, Seton was able to respond quickly scoring eight unanswered goals in the first half.

“In the second half, we had more attacking opportunities, however, we were struggling to get our form back,” noted Rankin. “After some time in the second half, the boys were able to rally together and put in some solid offensive opportunities.

“Losing 10-0 stings, but it’s a good reminder of what we have to face and where we need to be,” added Rankin.

George Phillips scored five goals — all in the first half — to pace the Saints.

Seton Catholic had a 22-4 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Waverly, now 1-4, returns to action Waverly when it hosts Owego.
