NTL GOLF: HICKS FIRES CAREER-BEST ROUND; ATHENS CLAIMS FOURTH STRAIGHT LEAGUE TITLE (7 PHOTOS) (2024-09-16)

WAVERLY — Sophomore Eli Hicks fired a career-low round of 69 to lead Athens to its 21st consecutive NTL win, and its fourth consecutive league title here Monday afternoon at Shepard Hills Country Club.

“Its absolutely awesome to win our fourth straight NTL title,” said Athens coach Lenny Pientka.

"We have a good blend with two seniors — Dylan Saxon and Brady Darrow, who give us consistent golf and team leadership,” he noted. “And, a good group of  sophomores in Lucas Greninger, Eli Hicks, and Colin Congdon.

“I also need to mention the freshman — Ty Owen and Brooke Lyon, who have been a great addition to our team ,and instant contributors,” he added.

Hicks carded seven birdies in his 3-under round on the par-72 course.

“My hats off to Eli Hicks with an outstanding round of 69,” said Pientka.

“He had 7 birdies to shoot 3-under on a great  golf course,” added Pientka.

Senior Dylan Saxon shot a 78 for the Wildcats, while freshman Ty Owen carded an 85, and senior Brady Darrow added an 86.

Sophomores Lucas Greninger, and Colin Congdon shot non-scoring rounds of 89 and 91, respectively.

The NTL golfer finish off the 2024 regular season next week at Shepard Hills.
