NTL CROSS COUNTRY: ATHENS BOYS, GIRLS NOTCH WINS OVER CV, SAYRE (2024-09-17)
Valley Sports ReportWESTFIELD, Pa. — The Athens boys, led by sophomore Graham Wanck and senior Ethan Hicks, had four of the top five finishers in a win over Cowanesque Valley, and the Lady Wildcats also picked up a win over the short-handed Indians in NTL cross country action.
The Athens boys topped CV, 24-33, and Sayre, which had just one runner, 15-50.
The Athens girls bested CV, 15-50. (Sayre did not field a runner.)
BOYSWanck clocked in at 19:48 to win the boys race, while Hicks was second in 20:09.
Sophomores Jacob Shores (21:05) and Matt Rossettie (21:54) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Wildcats, and Sayre sophomore Glenn VanBenthuysen was seven in 22:21.
Athens sophomore Ryder Morley was 14th in 25:35, while senior Gehrig Thurston was 15th in 25:37, and senior Pierce Oldroyd was 16th in 25:50.
Seniors Aiden Oldroyd (27:00) and Lohith Kinthala (27:25), and junior Andrew DeForest (27:27) finished 18th through 20th, respectively, for Athens, and freshman Darious Miller (28:27) and Ian Garrison (29:55) were 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
GIRLSSenior Sara Bronson won the girls race in a time of 22:54, and junior Ava Hughes was third in 26:27.
Freshman Alissa Vough (29:57), sophomore Haylie Horton (32:44), junior Karolin Roelle (33:51), freshman Tatyana Nasser (40:17), sophomore Joelle Vaughn (40:24), and senior Maryrose Bertsch (41:24) finished fifth through 10th, respectively.
JUNIOR HIGH
GirlsStella Unger (11:28), Adeline Burnett (12:03), and Paisley Smith (13:04) placed fourth, fifth, and seventh, respectively, in the junior high girls race.
BoysMicah Simwaled finished second in a time of 11:20, and Austin Nason was fourth in 12:40 for the Wildcats.
The Sayre foursome of Peter Menio (13:08), Lucas Sloat (16:41), Jayden Sinsabaugh (16:41.5), and Auron Benson (16:43) finished sixth through ninth, respectively.
