NTL BOYS SOCCER: ATHENS EDGES TOWANDA, 1-0, IN DEFENSIVE STRUGGLE (24 PHOTOS) (2024-09-18)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Senior Troy Rosenbloom scored the game’s only goal late in the first half to lift Athens to a 1-0 win over Towanda in NTL Large School Division boys soccer action at Alumni Stadium.
“It was a very tough game tonight for us,” said Athens coach Jake Lezak. “I’m happy with the boys for getting the win.
“We played a great defensive game and frustrated them.
“Towanda played a very tough game and didn’t give us any easy chances,” added Lezak. “They forced us out and made the boys earn it.”
To say the game was a defensive struggle would be an understatement.
The two teams combined for four shots-on-goal — three by Athens, and one by Towanda.
Rosenbloom’s goal, off an assist from junior Chase Ingram, came with 1:30 remaining in the first half.
Both teams had four corner kicks.
Junior Zac Fisher stopped the only shot he saw in net for the Wildcats.
Athens, now 4-4-1, will host Greene Saturday morning.
