STAC BOYS SOCCER: SECOND-HALF SCORING SPREE CARRIES OWEGO TO 11-0 WIN OVER WAVERLY (17 PHOTOS) (2024-09-18)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly played Owego tough in the first half, but the dam burst on the Wolverines defense in the second half, and the River Hawks pumped in eight second-half goals for an 11-0 win here Wednesday night in STAC Central Division boys soccer action at Memorial Stadium.

“Obviously it ended in big result, but at halftime Waverly’s resistance and teamwork at the back kept the result close,” said Owego coach Alessio de Michele. “Then, our possession and strength off the bench made a big difference.

“Credit to our boys, every player made a great impact and showed our ideas of how we want to play with and without the ball,” added de Michele.

Matt Samuelson netted a hat trick, and Matt Higgins had two goals and one assist to pace the River Hawk offense, while Vasil Brich had one goal, and two assists, and Adam Llewellyn dished out a pair of assists.

Mason Wold, Blythe miller, Sawyer Prentiss, and Daniel Kennedy each scored one goal — the first varsity goal for each of them — for Owego, and Zyir VanScoy, Owen Hallenback, Ryan Barnes, Bryce Oliver, and Danny Tavelli each had one assist.

Owego had a 15-0 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
