CICERO, N.Y. — Class AAA Cicero-North Syracuse scored twice in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the game, and cruised to a 9-1 win over Athens here Saturday in non-league girls soccer action.

“It was a tough match versus a quality opponent,” said Athens coach Rich Pitts, whose team suffered its first loss of the season.

“It gave us a wake-up call on some of the things we need to be better at before we get to districts,” he noted.
 
“I’m proud of the girls, they played hard the full 80 minutes,” added Pitts. “It’s humbling, but we get back to work Monday for two tough games next week.”

C-NS scored five goals in the first half, and led 5-1 at the intermission.

Sophomore Brielle Mayo scored the Wildcat goal, collecting a deflection of a hard shot from junior Olivia Thompson, who was credited with an assist.

Athens, now 7-1, hosts Wyalusing Tuesday.
