NTL BOYS SOCCER: WELLSBORO EDGES ATHENS, 1-0 (10 GOALS) (2024-09-23)

Valley Sports Report
WELLSBORO — David Seeling collected a loose ball off a direct kick, and scored the game’s only goal with 16:29 remaining in the game to lift Wellsboro to a 1-0 win over Athens here Monday night in NTL Large School Division boys soccer action.

“I’m very proud of the boys tonight,” said Athens coach Jake Lezak.

“We will get ready for the next match and see if we can get some offense going against a tough Elmira team,” he added. “The good news is we have four days to train.”

“After giving up five goals on Saturday, we were pleased to see our keeper and defensive line keep a clean sheet tonight,” said Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch.

“Although we were able to move the ball in our attacking half, Athens did a good job limiting our opportunities at goal,” he added.

Micaiah Fitch took the direct kick for the Hornets on the game-winning goal, and was credited with an assist.

Wellsboro had a 4-3 edge in shots-on-goal. Both teams took four corners.

Sophomore Zach Fisher had three saves in net for the Wildcats.

Athens, now 5-5-1, returns to action Saturday morning when it hosts Elmira.
