NTL CROSS COUNTRY: ATHENS BOYS, GIRLS EARN WINS OVER WYALUSING, WELLSBORO (18 PHOTOS) (2024-09-24)

ATHENS — Sophomore Graham Wanck led four Athens runners in the top six, and the Lady Wildcats had three in the top five as both teams picked up wins over Wellsboro and Wyalusing on “Senior Day” here Tuesday afternoon in NTL Large School Division cross country action at Round Top Park.

BOYS
Athens 22, Wyalusing 35
Athens 21, Wellsboro 38

Wanck won the boys race in a time of 16:51 — 53 seconds faster than the runner-up — to lead the Wildcats to a pair of wins.

Senior Ethan Hicks finished fourth in a time of 18:12, while sophomore Matt Rossettie was fifth in 18:37, and sophomore Jacob Shores was sixth in 18:38.

Senior Gehrig Thurston finished 12th for the Wildcats in a time of 22:01, while sophomore Ryder Morley was 13th in 22:12, and seniors Aiden Oldroyd (22:27), Lohith Kinthala (22:32), and Pierce Oldroyd (23:48) finished 14th through 16th, respectively.

Andrew DeForest was 18th in 24:16 for the Wildcats, while Darrius Miller was 20th in 25:49, and Ian Garrison was 21st in 26:40.

GIRLS
Athens 20, Wellsboro 42
Athens 24, Wyalusing 32

Athens senior Sara Bronson finished second on the day — just two seconds behind Wellsboro ace Lauren Kosek — in a time of 20:51, and freshman Alyssa Vouwghwas third in 21:25.

Junior Ava Hughes placed fifth in a time of 22:19 for the Wildcats, while sophomore Grace Ellsworth was ninth in 25:02, sophomore Haylie Horton was 10th in 26:11, and junior Karolin Roelle was 11th in 26:12.

Freshman Marlene Roelle finished 14th in a time of 27:33, while freshman Tatayana Nasser was 18th in 28:04, freshman Joelle Vaughn was 20th in 32:20, and senior Mary Rose Bertsch was 21st in 34:10.

Athens returns to action Saturday at the prestigious McQuaid Invitational.

JUNIOR HIGH
Athens 9, Wellsboro 12
Wyalusing 22, Athens 33

Stella Unger finished third in the junior high race in a time of 12:46, while Adeline Burnett was sixth in 13:41, and Paisley Smith was eighth in 14:39.
