SPENCER — Eighth-grader Grace Howey scored four goals and had two assists, and freshman Serenity Ralyea scored her first two varsity goals to lead Tioga to a wild, 8-6, win over SVEC in IAC girls soccer action here on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

“What a crazy game,” said first-year Tioga coach Emily Potter. “Everyone gave it there all in the yucky conditions.

“We moved the ball very well and found feet,” noted Potter.

“We are in the stretch of intense games right now and I’m very proud of how well the girls played,” she added. “We play like a team, we act like a team, it’s all coming together nicely.”

Howey, off a feed from freshman Natalie Kemp, scored less than a minute into the game to kick off the scoring frenzy.

SVEC freshman Allie Lyon, off an assist from Katie Coppage, tied the game with a goal about four minutes later.

Relyea scored her first career goal with 31:35 remaining off an assist from junior Sophia Haney, and Howey made it 3-1 less than a minute later off an assist from senior Erica Bradley.

Relyea capped a nifty run by Tioga with a goal off a setup from Haney to Howey to Relyea at point-blank range to extend the lead to 4-1.

Stouffer scored 15 minutes into the second half to trim the deficit to 4-3.

The teams then traded goals over the next 10 minutes to make it 6-5, with Howey and Haney scoring for the Tigers, and Lyon and Stouffer tallying goals for the Eagles.

Howey, off Haney’s third assist of the game scored with 14:10 remaining to give Tioga a 7-5 lead, but Lyon, off a feed from Coppage, completed her hat trick 90 seconds later to make it 7-6.
