NTL GIRLS SOCCER: ATHENS FALLS AT WILLIAMSPORT, 2-0 (12 PHOTOS) (2024-09-28)

Valley Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — Williamsport scored in the first two minutes of the game, and added an insurance goal early in the second half in a 2-0 non-league win over Athens in non-league girls soccer action here on a rainy Saturday.

“This was a very good test for us to prepare for districts,” said Athens coach Rich Pitts. “They are a well-coached, technical team that is a class bigger than us.

“I thought we did some really good stuff today, just couldn’t combine in the final third to put a few chances away,” added Pitts. “(Williamsport) capitalized on the two really good chances they had, and that’s the game.”

Deborah Shultz scored both goals for the Millionaires, the first with 38:07 remaining in the first half, and the second with 30:54 remaining in the game.

Williamsport had a 9-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. Both teams had five corner kicks.

Senior Carmelita Pomaquiza recorded six saves in net for the Wildcats.

Athens, now 8-2, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Williamsport.
