IAC GIRLS SOCCER: TIOGA, GROTON BATTLE TO SCORELESS DRAW (2024-09-28)
Valley Sports ReportGROTON — Tioga and Groton battled for 100 minutes, neither denting the other’s defenses; both had to settle for a 0-0 tie here Saturday morning in IAC Small School Division crossover girls soccer action.
The Tigers were coming off a 2-1 win over Newark Valley Friday night under the lights at Haggerty Field.
“Determined, strong, and a win in my book,” said Tioga coach Emily Potter. “After less than a 12-hour rest, these girls came out strong and ready to play.
“A tie is better than a loss, but in my opinion this is a win after a strong win late last night and a quick turn-around,” she noted.
“Double OT, and they never once gave up,” added Potter. “Working as a unit, we played great defense, not allowing much space for a good shot.”
The two teams met last Friday at Haggerty Field with Tioga pulling out a 2-1 win.
Groton had a 14-6 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior Taliah Speer recorded 13 saves in the net for the Tigers.
Tioga, now 8-1-1, hosts SVEC Tuesday.
