STAC GIRLS SOCCER: WAVERLY SHUTS OUT SETON CATHOLIC, 4-0 (2024-09-28)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Waverly controlled play, and had three different players score in a 4-0 win over Seton Catholic here Saturday in STAC Central Division girls soccer action at Memorial Stadium.
“We had some chances to try some new players on the field in different positions,” said Waverly coach Tara Hogan.
“We give Seton a lot of credit as they played without subs and continued to make us work for opportunities.
“We had a lot of shots but we made it fairly easy for their goalkeeper,” added Hogan. “Our ball movement was clean and our communication was strong.”
Senior Kiley Stillman, off a feed from junior Kaitlyn Sutton, scored five minutes into the game to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead.
Freshman Gianna Soprano, off an assist from freshman Kaylin Twedt, scored to make it 2-0 with 23:49 remaining in the half.
Sophomore Makenzie Olmsted found the net with 6:01 remaining in the first half to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. Stillman was credited with an assist.
Olmsted tacked on an insurance goal, with Soprano getting the assist, midway through the second half to push the advantage to 4-0.
Waverly had a 32-11 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Addison Temple recorded 10 saves in net for the Wolverines, and Maddie Cron added one. It was the sixth shutout of the season for Waverly.
Waverly, now 8-2, hosts Owego Thursday.
