WANCK, BRONSON, ATHENS GIRLS POST BEST-EVER FINISHES

ROCHESTER — Athens sophomore Graham Wanck had the best finish of Valley competitors at the prestigious McQuaid Cross Country Invitational, while senior Sara Bronson led the Athens girls to an 8th-place finish in the team standings here Saturday.

The Athens boys placed 13th and Waverly was 30th.

BOYS
Wanck clocked in at 15:28.4 to finish fifth, less than 15 seconds behind the winner, Gage Feider of Alden, who won in a time of 15:13.9.

Wanck’s finish is the best-ever boys finish at McQuaid. In the merged results (all races, regardless of size), Wanck was 26th out of 2,491 runners.

There were 53 full teams, and 410 competitors in the race.

Senior Ethan Hicks was the second Wildcat runner to cross the finish line, placing 51st in a time of 17:16.9, while sophomore Jacob Shores was 78th in 17:44.7, and sophomore Matt Rossettie was 91st in 17:57.1.

Senior Gehrig Thurston was 278th in 20:42.0, while senior Lohith Kinthala was 296th in 20:58.0, senior Aiden Oldroyd was 313th in 21:18.0, senior Pierce Oldroyd was 334th in 21:51.7, sophomore Ryder Morley was 351st in 22:19.5, and junior Andrew DeForest was 355th in 22:23.1.

Sophomore Chase Hine led Waverly with a 61st-place finish in a time of 17:27.5, while junior Hayden Howe was 109th in 18:14.3, senior Nick Mattison was 139th in 18:36.7, freshman Hayden Montanye was 263rd in 20:27.5, sophomore Jayden Washington was 317th in 21:21.3, and 8th-grader Colten Santalucia was 335th in 21:53.0

JV Boys
Athens freshman Darious Miller finished 252nd in a time of 25:34.4.

Junior High Boys
Eighth-grader Micah Simwale finished 114th in a time of 11:32.6 to lead Athens, while 7th-grader Austin Nason was 146th in 12:06.9

GIRLS
BRONSON, VOUGH RECORD TOP-20 FINISHES TO LEAD ATHENS; CHAMBERLAIN, MINAKER PACE WAVERLY

Bronson and freshman Alissa Vough each had top-20 finishes to lead the Wildcats to a eighth-place finish in the team standings, while junior Mackenzie Chamberlain paced Waverly’s efforts.

There were 36 full teams, and 319 competitors in the race.

East Aurora won the team title with 54 points, while South Jefferson was second with 105 points, Notre Dame-Easton (Pa.) was third with 162. Athens tallied 342 points, while Wellsboro was 28th with 674 points, and Waverly did not field a full team.

Bronson clocked in at 18:52.1 to finish 10th, while Vough finished in 19:39.5.

Both Bronson’s finish, and the team’s eighth-place finish are the best-ever for the program.

Junior Ava Hughes finished 46th for Athens in 20:38.8, while sophomore Grace Ellsworth was 171st in 23:22.5, sophomore Haylie Horton was 192nd in 23:57.9, junior Karolin Roelle was 215th in 24:29.5, freshman Tatyana Nasser was 254th in 25:36.3, and freshman Marlene Roelle was 260th in 25:51.8.

Chamberlain clocked in at 20:39.3 to finish 47th for the Wolverines, while senior Harper Minaker was 54th in 20:47.2, sophomore Taylor Sinsabaugh was 182nd in 23:34.8, and freshman Miah Correll was 283rd in 26:40.7.

Junior High Girls

Athens 8th-grader Stella Unger placed seventh in a time of 11:02.5 to lead Athens, and 8th-grader Adaline Burnett was 21st in 11:32.2.
