NTL CROSS COUNTRY: BRONSON LEADS ATHENS GIRLS TO TWO WINS; BOYS GO 2-1 (13 PHOTOS) (2024-10-01)

LAPORTE — Senior Sara Bronson led three Athens girls in the top four to lead the Wildcats to a pair of wins here Tuesday in NTL cross country action, while sophomore Graham Wanck topped the field as the Athens boys won two of three decisions.

GIRLS
Athens 21, Sullivan County 37
Athens 19, Troy 44

Bronson edged out Troy ace Alyssa Parks by five seconds, clocking in at 21:24 for first place, while athens freshman Alissa Vough and junior Ava Hughes finished third and fourth.

Vough clocked in at 22:12, and Hughes crossed the finish line in 23:15.

Sophomore Haylie Horton (27:15), junior Karolin Roelle (27:43), and sophomore Grace Ellsworth (28:04) finished eighth through 10th, respectively, while freshmen Marlene Roelle (28:18) and Tatyana Nassar (29:21) were 12th and 13th.

FreshmanJoelle Vaughn was 17th in 34:39 for the Wildcats, and senior Maryrose Bertsch was 18th in 36:50.

BOYS
Athens 18, Sullivan County 43
Athens 26, Canton 31
Troy 22, Athens 37

Wanck topped the field to lead the Wildcats to a pair of wins, but Troy had four runners in the top six to top Athens.

Wanck finished first in a time of 17:37 — 39 seconds faster than runner-up Lawrence Halbforester of Troy.

Senior Ethan Hicks finished seventh in a time of 19:52 for the Wildcats, and sophomore Matt Rossettie was eighth in 19:55.

Sophomore Jacob Shores finished 17th for Athens in a time of 21:36, while senior Gehrig Thurston (23:51), senior Aiden Oldroyd (24:03), sophomore Ryder Morley (24:27), senior Pierce Oldroyd (24:29), junior Andrew DeForest (24:53), and senior Lohith Kinthala (24:56) was 27th through 32nd, respectively.

Freshman Darious Miller finished 35th for Athens in a time of 26:04.

JUNIOR HIGH
Girls

Stella Unger paced Athens with a sixth-place finish in a time of 13:32, while Addie Burnett was 14th in 14:58, and Paisley Smith was 15th in 15:35.

Boys
Micah Simwale paced Athens with a seventh-place finish in a time of 13:45, and Austin Nason was ninth in 14:57.
