DISTRICT 4 GOLF: ATHENS' HICKS LEADS CLASS AAA FIELD BY 5 STROKES AFTER DAY 1; SAXON IN THIRD (12 PHOTOS) (2024-10-03)
Valley Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — Athens sophomore Eli Hicks earned low-medal honors in Rond 1 of the District 4, Class AAA boys golf championships here Thursday afternoon at the Williamsport Country Club, and leads the field by five strokes.
Hicks shot a 2-over par round of 73.
Hicks fired a 2-under par 34 on the front nine, with birdies on the par-5 6th hole, and the par-4 8th hole.
He shot a 4-over 39 on the back nine with four bogeys.
Jersey Shore’s Carter Girton is in second place after carding a 78.
Athens senior Dylan Saxon is in third place after shooting an 80. Saxon closed day on a high note with birdies on the par-5 16th and par-5 18th holes.
Athens senior Brady Darrow is tied for sixth place after shooting an 84, and freshman Ty Owen is tied for 14th after carding an 89.
The top two golfers in Class AAA will earn a berth to the PIAA Championships.
Round 2 of the District 4 Championships will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
GIRLSAthens freshman Brooke Lyon is tied for eight in the Class AA girls championship after shooting a 131.
