IAC VOLLEYBALL: TIOGA WINS FIVE-SET THRILLER OVER LANSING (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-07)
Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Two weeks ago, Tioga let a 2-0 lead slip through its fingers in a five-set loss to Trumansburg. The Tigers were on the verge of the same fate Monday night, but re-grouped to win the fifth set for a 3-2 victory over Lansing in IAC volleyball action.
The Tigers won a pair of hard-fought 26-24 decisions to take a 2-0 lead, but the Blue Raiders evened the match with wins of 25-20 and 25-16.
Tioga bounced back in the fifth set with a 15-11 win to sweep the season series from Lansing, which is the reigning New York State Class B champion.
Alyson Chamberlain led Tioga with nine points, nine setter assists, and two digs, while Lily Mezzatesta had six points, nine kills, 11 digs, and two assists, Kali Bailey had four points, a team-high 17 kills, one block, and seven digs, and RaeAnne Feeko registered six kills, a team-high 12 assists, and two digs.
Audi Zorn had six kills, a team-high five blocks, and four digs in the win, while Lydiah Decker recorded 12 kills and 11 digs, Jade Keaty had 10 digs, Vanessa Tunicliff added five kills, two blocks, and two digs, and Mary Diver chipped in with three assists.
Tioga, now 6-2, hosts Watkins Glen Wednesday.
JV: Tioga swept Lansing by scores of 25-22 and 26-24 in the junior varsity match.
Courtney Smith led Tioga with 10 points and 15 digs, while Kath Kithcart had eight points, 12 assists, and nine digs, Vida Rossi had five points, eight kills, one block, dour assists, and 10 digs, and Sadi Marshall had for points, nine assists, and 10 digs.
Lindsey Jeffrey had three points, 24 assists, 19 digs, two kills, and one block in the win, while Sara Prough had three points, five kills, three assists, and eight digs, Brianna Lounsbury had three points, two assists, and nine digs, Peyton Black added three kills, two blocks, three digs, and two assists, Riley Butler recorded nine digs, and Amelia Toomey and Kaylynne Miller chipped in with two digs, and two assists, respectively.
