NTL BOYS SOCCER: ROSENBLOOM'S GOAL IN OVERTIME LIFTS ATHENS TO 1-0 WIN OVER NORTH PENN-LIBERTY (21 PHOTOS) (2024-10-10)

Valley Sports Report
LIBERTY — Senior Troy Rosenbloom scored in the closing moments of overtime to lift Athens to a 1-0 win over North Penn-Liberty here Thursday in NTL boys soccer action.

The Wildcats, now 8-6-2, and Mountaineers battled to a 1-1 in their first meeting at Athens on Sept. 13.

“It was a great game tonight,” said Athens coach Jake Lezak. “The boys battled hard, and kept them off the board.

“Our back line and keeper made a lot of plays on long balls and crosses to keep us in the game.

“And, Troy (Rosenbloom) came through for us and made a great play to finish the game and get the goal,” added Lezak. “We preach this to the boys and he did it tonight.”

After more than 89 minutes of scoreless action, Rosenbloom   beat the NP-L keeper to a feed from sophomore Kamdyn Wheeler, and punched the ball into the net for the game-winner.

Athens had a 9-6 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Zach Fisher recorded six saves in net for the Wildcats.

Athens returns to action Saturday against Harbor Creek at Pitt-Bradford University.
