STAC BOYS SOCCER: SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY SETS TONE WITH EARLY GOALS IN 3-0 WIN OVER WAVERLY (2024-10-11)

Valley Sports Report
CONKLIN — Susquehanna Valley scored a pair of goals in a 28-second span early in the first half, and went on to a 3-0 win over Waverly here Friday evening in STAC boys soccer action.

“That was a battle,” said Waverly coach Jon Rankin. “It was physical, it was fast, and it was hard. Their team is strong and we did what we could to match them.

“They had a pair of early goals that set the tone for the rest of the night and we did what we could to make adjustments,” he noted. “We only started to find success toward the end of the second half once we rotated personnel.

“I give big props to my boys, I moved players everywhere and some of them outside their comfort zone to get something happening. We had a few great opportunities but we were just off the mark.

“Andrew Larrabee was just off the mark with a beautiful free kick from 35 yards out,” continued Rankin. “He attempted to put it top right of the goal and glinted the post; that’s a difference of 1/8th (or less) of an inch on the foot.

“We plan to finish the season off strong with the last pair of games we have,” added Rankin. “The boys have continued to fight hard throughout the season and will continue that fight until the evening of Oct.16 when the final whistle blows.”

SV added a goal midway through the second half to provide the final margin.

The Sabers had an 18-2 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Aiden Doherty recorded 14 saves in net for the Wolverines.

Waverly, now 1-3, hosts Groton in its final home game of the season Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
