NTL FOOTBALL: VANDERPOOL POWERS TOWANDA TO 54-14 WIN OVER SAYRE (18 PHOTOS) (2024-10-12)

SAYRE — Riley Vanderpool ran for three TDs, and threw for another in the first half as Towanda built a 40-0 lead on its way to a 54-14 win over Sayre here Saturday night in NTL football action at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

Vanderpool scored on a 41-yard run just 1 minute into the game to give the Black Knights an early lead. Jack Wheaton’s PAT kick made it 7-0.

Following a Sayre punt, Vanderpool ripped off an 86-yard TD run with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter to make it 13-0.

Towanda also scored on its next possession when Vanderpool connected with Rylee SLuyter on a 17-yard TD pass with 1 minute left in the first quarter. Wheaton’s kick made it 20-0.

The Black Knights added three more TDs in the second quarter in a four-minute span.

Caden Delameter’s 38-yard TD run with 5:26 left in the half made it 26-0.

With 3:05 remaining in the half, Sluyter stepped in front of a Karter Green pass and raced 64 yards for a score. Wheaton’s kick made it 33-0.

Vanderpool capped the first-half scoring with a 5-yard TD run with 1:17 remaining. Wheaton’s PAT made it 40-0.

Jamier Kole put the Redskins on the board with a 1-yard TD run with 4:29 left in the third quarter to close the gap to 40-6, but less than three minutes later, Tanner Vanderpool hauled in a 46-yard TD pass from Reese Sluyter to put Towanda on the board again. Gage Evans’ run for conversion made it 48-6.

Sayre lit up the scoreboard again midway through the fourth quarter on a 7-yard TD pass from Green to senior Nick Pellicano.  Cole hauled in the two-point conversion pass to trim the deficit to 48-14.

Reese Sluyter capped the scoring with a 7-yard TD run with 3:01 left in the contest.

Green, who led Sayre with 32 rushing yards on 13 carries, completed 9 of 18 passes for 137 yards, one TD and one interception.

Riley Johnson rushed for 20 yards on two carries for the Redskins.

Pellicano led Sayre with five receptions for 94 yards, and Edwin Rivera had three grabs for 18 yards.

Riley Vanderpool finished the game with 152 rushing yards and three TDs on six carries, and Delameter had 58 yards and one TD on four carries.

Vanderpool also completed 5 of 8 passes for 91 yards and one TD, and Reese Sluyter was 3-for-4 for 52 yards and one TD.

Tanner Vanderpool had two receptions for 50 yards and one TD for the Knights, while Tashon Garner had two grabs for 43 yards, and Rylee Sluyter had two catches for 40 yards and one TD.

Sayre, now 1-7, returns to action Friday at Canton.
