ELMIRA — Junior Mira Kittle and her teammates continue to re-write the record books, both at Waverly and other venues. On Saturday, the Wolverine swimmers broke numerous records on their way to a second-place finish at the rugged Elmira Swimming & Diving Invitational.

Horseheads claimed the team title with 301 points, while Waverly was second with 215, Corning was third with 180, Ithaca was fourth with 140, and Maine-Endwell was fifth with 128.

Waverly coach Amy Steck was also pleased to see a large majority of her 12 swimmers log personal-best times on the day.

Kittle, who is currently the top-ranked female in New York state in the 50-yard freestyle, won the event in a time of 23.6 seconds, while 8th-grader Megan Atanasoff was fourth in a personal-best time of 25.24 seconds, which places her No. 4 in program history.

Freshman Lauryn Welles placed sixth with a personal-best time of  25.41 second, which puts her No. 5 all-time, and junior Olivia Cheresnowsky placed seventh in a time of 25.62 seconds.

Kittle finished first in the 100-yard backstroke, breaking her own school record with a time of 56.96 seconds. She is currently ranked third all-time in Section IV history in the event.

Cheresnowsky placed third in a season-best time of 1:03.02, and 8th-grader, and 8th-grader Audrey Kellogg was 13th in a personal-best time of 1:10.58.

Waverly’s 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Kittle, Cheresnowsky, Welles, and Atanasoff, which is currently the top-ranked relay in the state, won the event with a new pool, meet, and school record time of 1:38.88.

Kittle, Cheresnowsky, Atanasoff and Kellogg also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a school-record time of 3:45.63.

Eighth-grader Natalie Steck finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a personal-best time of 1:13.5, which places her No. 4 all-time in program history, and Wells finished fourth in a personal-best time of 1:15.05, which is No. 5 all-time at Waverly.

Kellogg placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 56.51, which puts her No. 6 in program history, and Atanasoff placed fifth with a personal-best time of 56.97 seconds, which places her No. 9 all-time at Waverly.

Eighth-graders Ayla Wheeler (1:01.1) and Brynna Twedt (1:03.0) also swam personal-best times in the 100 free, and finished 11th and 18th, respectively.

Waverly’s 200-yard medley relay, which is comprised of 8th-graders Twedt, Steck, Wheeler, and Kellogg, finished fifth in a time of 2:03.48.

Senior Elizabeth Robinson placed placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 2:09.99, and junior Sophie Williams was 24th with a personal-best time of 2:33.11.

Robinson finished seventh in the 500-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 6:03.82, and Williams was 24th in a personal-best time of 6:52.12.

Waverly returns to action Tuesday at Owego.
