STAC BOYS GOLF: WAVERLY'S McISAAC POSTS TOP-25 FINISH, WALTER EARNS VALUABLE EXPERIENCE AT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (9 PHOTOS) (2024-10-15)

Valley Sports Report
ELMIRA — Senior Carson McIsaac had a top-25 finish, and freshman Griff Walter gained valuable experience here on a wacky weather Tuesday at the STAC Boys Golf Championships at Mark Twain Golf Course.

The day featured sun, a hail storm that left most of the greens white with hail that resulted in a 15-minute delay while the re-emerging sun dried out the greens.

McIsaac shot a round of 85 (41-44) that included three birdies on the 6,311-yard, par-72 Mark Twain course, while Walter carded a 90 (40-50), including a birdie on his last hole.

“I’m just really proud of these two, especially in the conditions today, they played great” said Waverly coach Marc Felt. “Cold, wind, and hail isn’t exactly the recipe for a good round of golf, but both of these two battled through it on a really tough golf course.

“Griff (Walter), being a freshman and in his first year playing competitive golf, had a really good year and deserved to be here,” noted Felt.

“He started off slow today, as did most, but never really put his head down,” he said. “He ended up playing his last six holes in 1-over, including a birdie, to finish well.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing him develop over the next few years.

“Carson really ended his varsity golf career with a bang today,” continued Felt. “He’s led this team for the last few years, and put it together one last time today.

“He’s worked really hard this year to get his swing where he wants it, and it paid off today,” said Felt. “He ball struck his way around this place, and made a few putts.

“Making three birdies on that course is always solid, highlighted by a finishing birdie on a tough hole, No. 13,” added Felt. “We will definitely miss Carson next year, but I’m excited for the 2025 season.”
