STAC GIRLS SWIMMING: KITTLE, WELLES LEAD UNBEATEN WAVERLY TO 100-80 WIN OVER OWEGO (2024-10-15)
Valley Sports ReportOWEGO — Junior Mira Kittle was a four-time winner, and freshman Lauryn Welles was a triple-winner to lead Waverly to a 100-80 win over Owego here Tuesday afternoon in STAC girls swimming action.
Eighth-grader Natalie Steck, Brynna Twedt, and Audrey Kellogg were double-winners for the Wolverines, who improve to 6-0 on the season.
Kittle led a sweep in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.82 seconds, while 8th-grader Megan Atanasoff was second in 26.51 seconds, and Kellogg was third in 26.73 seconds.
Kittle won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.96, and Kellogg was second in 1:14.87.
Kittle, Welles, Twedt, and Steck won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:02.43.
Kittle, Welles, Twedt, and Kellogg won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:47.58, and the Waverly foursome of Atanasoff, senior Elizabeth Robinson, Steck, and 8th-grader Ayla Wheeler placed second in 1:52.7.
Welles led a sweep in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.16 seconds, while junior Olivia Cheresnowsky was second in 59.4 seconds, and Atanasoff was third in 1:00.05.
Steck won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:16.58, and Welles was second in 1:17.68.
Atanasoff, Kellogg, Robinson, and Wheeler teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:12.67.
Robinson finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:17.3. She also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:25.36.
Steck finished second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:34.6.
Cheresnowsky finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.93 — just .02 seconds off the winning time of former Waverly swimmer Sophia Lee, while Twedt was third in 1:15.61, and Wheeler was fourth in 1:18.44.
Waverly returns to action next Tuesday when it hosts Chenango Valley.
