NTL BOYS SOCCER: GOAL IN FINAL SECONDS FORCES ATHENS TO SETTLE FOR 1-1 DRAW WITH WILLIAMSON (2024-10-15)
Valley Sports Report ATHENS — Williamson scored with 8.1 seconds remaining in regulation to forge a 1-1 draw with Athens here Tuesday afternoon in NTL boys soccer action.
“Eight seconds … The progress of this team and how well we played tonight will not be seen by those who focus on a mistake with 8 seconds left,” said Athens coach Jake Lezak.
“We are still getting better and growing daily,” added Lezak. “I look forward to the postseason.”
Senior Brayden Onofre put the Wildcats on the board with 18:22 remaining in the first half.
For more than 58 minutes, the Wildcats maintained the one-goal advantage, until Jordan Monroe found the back of the net for the Warriors with 8.1 seconds left to tie the game at 1-1.
The two teams played 20 more minutes of scoreless soccer.
Both teams had 4 shots-on-goal, and Williamson had an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Zach Fisher recorded three saves in net for the Wildcats.
Athens wraps up the regular season with an 8-8-2 record.
