STAC GIRLS SOCCER: HORSEHEADS EDGES WAVERLY, 1-0, IN OVERTIME (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-15)

Valley Sports Report
HORSEHEADS — Madison Ribble scored three minutes into overtime to lift Horseheads to a 1-0 win over Waverly here Tuesday night in STAC girls soccer action.

The game was the annual “Cancer Awareness” the two programs play each year.

“(Horseheads) came out with a lot of energy,” said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. “As usual, our defenders are the main ones to thank along with (keeper) Claire (Clonch) seeing a significant amount of action again tonight.

“Maci Wheeler had one of her best games yet,” noted Hogan. “She’s understanding her positioning more and more and is great with seeing the field.

“Makenzie Olmsted let nothing get by her without a fight,” said Hogan. “I will also continue to sing Haley Larrabee’s praises because she has become such a vital piece of our defense and that detail has only just come to light this season.

“Kendall (Rockwell’s) presence and communication is second to none,” continued Hogan. “Ryleigh Judson saw some solid time as a center mid and really stepped up. And, Kait Sutton was also moved around a fair amount and played well at each position.

“This was a tough game that we really had to fight for and our defenders specifically kept us in the game,” added Hogan.

Horseheads had a 16-6 advantage in shots-on-goal. Both teams had one corner kick.

Junior Claire Clonch recorded 15 saves in net for the Wolverines.

Waverly wraps up the regular season with a 10-4 record.
