All eyes North of the Border this weekend will be on Haggerty Field Saturday night as Tioga hosts Waverly in a renewal of their fierce rivalry. On Friday, Athens and Sayre are both on the road against non-divisional NTL opponents.

It was a pretty good week for half of the prognosticating foursome with The Mick and myself going 10-2, while Little Red was 9-3, and Country Bob was 8-4.

For the season, The Mick leads the way at 68-14, while I am 66-16, Little Red is 64-18, and Country Bob is 61-21.

So what do the pigskin pickers see in Week 9? Let’s take a look:

Waverly (5-1) at Tioga (4-2): The Wolverines are coming off a 48-0 win at Dryden, while the Tigers topped Newark Valley, 32-14.

This game lacks a little bit, well actually a great deal, of the luster of last year’s epic, two-day overtime clash between these two state powers.

Tioga fans should take solace in the fact there two losses are to Class C Chenango Forks, which is ranked third in the state, and Delhi, ranked 12th in Class D. Waverly is atop the Class C rankings.

Prediction: In a nutshell, Waverly just has too many athletes for a young Tioga team to deal with. … WAVERLY 42, TIOGA 13.

The Mick: Waverly 46, Tioga 14. … Country Bob: Waverly 35, Tioga 14. … Little Red: Waverly 52, Tioga 6.

Athens (4-4) at Muncy (7-1): The Wildcats are coming off a 29-13 win at Wyalusing, while the Indians rolled to a 49-21 win over South Williamsport.

The Athens defense was the lynchpin in last week’s win against the run-oriented Wyalusing offense. It will be more of the same this week as the Wildcats will have to stop big Austin Johnson.

Prediction: Muncy is more than just Johnson, and Johnson is among the best in the state. MUNCY 34, ATHENS 13.

The Mick: Muncy 44, Athens 21. … Country Bob: Muncy 38, Athens 13. … Little Red: Muncy 35, Athens 17.

Sayre (1-7) at Canton (4-4): The Redskins are coming off a 54-14 home loss to Towanda, while the Warriors topped Wellsboro, 46-34.

Prediction: Canton is getting healthy, and that’s bad news for Sayre. … CANTON 52, SAYRE 20.

The Mick: Canton 54, Sayre 14. … Country Bob: Canton 48, Sayre 13. … Little Red: Canton 42, Sayre 13.

Owego (5-0) at Chenango Valley (3-3):  The River Hawks are coming off a 55-20 win over Section III Westhill, while the Warriors dropped a 35-7 decision to Chenango Forks.

Prediction: Owego is clicking on all cylinders, and while better than its been the last few years, CV is still rebuilding. … OWEGO 48, CV 6.

The Mick: Owego 44, CV 8. … Country Bob: Owego 47, CV 6. … Little Red: Owego 35, CV 7.

Oxford (1-4) at SVEC (2-4): The Eagles are coming off a 42-8 loss to Delhi, while the Blackhawks topped Harpursville-Afton, 38-30.

Prediction: SVEC is physical, and can run the ball. Oxford has had problems stopping the run. … SVEC 33, Oxford 13.

Towanda (6-2) at Tunkhannock (3-5): The Black Knights are coming off a 54-14 win over Sayre, while the Tigers blanked Montrose, 31-0.

Prediction: Riley Vanderpool and the Towanda offense has looked good in recent weeks. … TOWANDA 36, TUNKHANNOCK 22.

Hughesville (4-4) at Wyalusing (4-4): The Rams are coming off a 29-13 loss to Athens, while the Spartans lost 32-29 in overtime to Warrior Run.

Prediction: Hughesville has played pretty well against a tough schedule. … HUGHESVILLE 25, WYALUSING 16.

Troy (8-0) at Central Mountain (0-8): The Trojans are coming off a 56-13 win over North Penn-Mansfield, while the Wildcats dropped a 49-0 decision to Mount Carmel.

Prediction: Troy has delivered some big beat downs this season, and Central Mountains has received several against a rugged schedule. It will be more of the same tonight. … TROY 46, CM 6.

Cowanesque Valley (3-5) at North Penn-Mansfield (2-6): The Indians are coming off a 43-22 win over Northwest Area, while the Tigers dropped a 56-13 decision to Troy.

Prediction: This is a tough game to get a handle on. I’ll take NP-M at home. … NP-M 29, CV 25.

Wellsboro (1-7) at Northwest Area (1-7): The Hornets are coming off a 46-34 loss to Canton, while the Rangers dropped a 43-22 decision to Cowanesque Valley.

Prediction: Wellsboro only has one win, but the Hornets have played better than that for most of the season. … WELLSBORO 34, NORTHWEST 21.

South Williamsport (4-4) at Montgomery (5-3): The Mounties are coming off a 49-21 home loss to Muncy, while the Red Raiders steamrolled Holy Redeemer, 55-0. 

Prediction: Montgomery has been a very pleasant surprise this season, but South Williamsport is still a solid team. … SOUTH 25, MONTGOMERY 20.

Newark Valley (1-5) at Ithaca (1-5): The Cardinals are coming off a 32-14 loss to Tioga, while the Little Red dropped a 48-0 decision to Windsor.

Prediction: Newark Valley is banged up, but still plays with a lot of heart. Ithaca is not very good for a Class A program, but NV is Class D. … ITHACA 36, NEWARK VALLEY 22.

Horseheads (4-2) at Vestal (3-3): The Blue Raiders are coming off a 35-14 win over Corning, while the Golden Bears thumped Binghamton, 49-12.

Prediction: Vestal is the only team in Class A that poses a threat to Horseheads, and I don’t see the Bears as much of a threat. … HORSEHEADS 48, VESTAL 14.
