Valley Sports Report
MUNCY — Muncy piled up 649 yards in total offense, including 481 rushing yards, on its way to a 63-26 win over Athens here Friday night in non-divisional NTL football action.

It was a night of big plays as the Indians scored seven TDs of 46 yards or more. They averaged nearly 21 yards per play in the contest.

Austin Johnson, who is headed to Oklahoma State on a  wrestling scholarship, scored the first TD just 91 seconds into the game on a 64-yard TD pass from Stiles Eyer.

Less than three minutes later, Johnson broke loose on a 77-yard TD run to make it 14-0 with 7:46 left in the first quarter.

Landyn Wommer ripped off a 91-yard TD run with 1:04 remaining, and Johnson tacked on the run for conversion to make it 22-0 at the end of the opening stanza.

Athens got on the board early in the second quarter on a 15-yard TD pass from sophomore Connor Davidson to sophomore Brendan Cooke. Sophomore Zach Fisher’s PAT kick made it 22-7 with 10:08 remaining in the first half.

Any thoughts of a Wildcat rally were dashed less than two minutes later when Wommer scampered 55 yards for a score to make it 29-7.

Johnson added a 7-yard TD run with 4:54 remaining in the first half to extend the lead to 36-7, but Davidson returned the ensuing kickoff 91 yards for a score, and Fisher’s PAT closed the gap to 36-14.

The Indians put together a quick scoring drive that culminated in a 24-yard TD pass from Eyer to Jonson with 2:01 remaining in the half to make it 43-14.

The Indian defense forced an Athens punt on its ensuing possession with less than 33 seconds remaining.

On Muncy’s first play, Wommer broke loose on an 80-yard TD run to make it 50-14 at the half.

The teams traded TDs in the second half.

Johnson started the scoring with a 52-yard TD run with 4:34 remaining in the third quarter, and Athens answered with a 33-yard TD pass from Davidson to junior Ryan Cook on the last play of the third quarter to make it 57-20.

Wommer hauled in a 46-yard TD pass from Eyer with 9:54 remaining in the contest, and Athens answered with a 9-yard TD pass from Davidson to sophomore Kade Rowe with 2:59 left to provide the final margin.

Wommer led Muncy’s ground game, which averaged 21.9 yards per carry on 22 carries, with 232 yards and three TDs on just five carries, while Johnson added 182 yards and three TDs on 10 carries.

Eyer completed 7 of 9 passes for 168 yards, and three TDs, with Johnson’s two catches for 88 yards and two TDs leading the Indians.

Davidson completed 15 of 25 passes for a career-high 345 yards, and three TDs. He was intercepted twice.

Senior Sean Peters led the Wildcats with six receptions for 130 yards and one TD, while Cooke had six grabs for 97 yards, and one TD, and Keegan Congdon had two catches for 66 yards.
