THE VALLEY — All eyes will be on Haggerty Field Saturday night as Tioga hosts Valley rival Waverly in a battle of state-ranked teams at Haggerty Field.

Last year’s contest at Memorial Stadium was an instant classic contested over two days (due to thunderstorms), and won in overtime by Tioga.

FOOTBALL
Waverly (5-1) at Tioga (4-2), 7 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a 48-0 win at Dryden, while the Tigers topped Newark Valley, 32-14.

Waverly is currently ranked No. 1 in New York State in Class C, while Tioga is ranked No. 13 in Class D.

Waverly’s lone loss was a 41-40 overtime thriller at Maine-Endwell, while Tioga’s losses came of Chenango Forks, ranked third in Class C, and Delhi, ranked 12th in Class D.

The Tigers have outscored their opponents by an average of 25.3 to 17.7, while the Wolverines have outscored their foes by an average of 44.3 to 11.

Waverly’s sophomore QB Benny Shaw is completing 70.1 percent of his passes (68 of 97) for 1,023 yards and 17 TDs with just one interception.

Senior Xavier Watson, who is bound for Division I UConn, leads Waverly with 30 receptions for 386 yards, and eight TDs, while senior Kolsen Keathley has 16 grabs for 350 yards and four TDs, and junior Daltton Davis has 12 catches for 196 yards and three TDs.

Senior Fletcher Good leads a balanced Waverly ground game with 278 yards and four TDs on 36 carries, and junior Cooper Robinson has 190 yards and five TDs on 35 carries.

GIRLS SOCCER
IAC Small School Championship
Tioga (9-4-1) vs Groton (10-3-1), noon @ TCCC: The Tigers and Indians have played twice this season with Tioga winning 2-1 at home, and the teams playing to a 0-0 tie at Groton a week later.

Athens (10-5) at Central Mountain (2-13), 11 a.m.: The Athens Wildcats have lost five in a row, while the Central Mountain Wildcats have lost seven of their last eight.
