Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — Postseason soccer and cross-country begins on both sides of the border this week, and the first state championship is on the slate, with Athens sophomore Eli Hicks competing at the PIAA Golf Championships.

There are 19 events on the docket this week, including seven on Tuesday, and four apiece on Thursday and Friday.

The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:

MONDAY (1)
•  Athens sophomore Eli Hicks is in action at Day 1 of the PIAA golf championships at the Penn State Golf Course.

TUESDAY (7)
•  Athens sophomore Eli Hicks is in action at Day 1 of the PIAA golf championships at the Penn State Golf Course.

•  Top-seeded Waverly hosts SVEC in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class B girls soccer playoffs.

•  Tioga hosts Unadilla Valley in the opening round of the Class C girls soccer playoffs.

•  Sayre hosts Athens in a renewal of their longtime volleyball rivalry.

•  Waverly volleyball "hosts" unbeaten Owego at Tioga.

•  Waverly hosts Chenango Valley in a STAC girls swim meet.

WEDNESDAY (0)
There are no events of the schedule.

THURSDAY (4)
•  Sayre and Athens runners are in action at the District 4 Cross-Country Championships at Bloomsbury University.

•  Tioga hosts Whitney Point on the volleyball hardwoods.

•  Athens volleyball wraps up the regular season at home against Williamson.

FRIDAY (4)
•  Athens hosts Sayre in the renewal of the annual Rusty Rail football rivalry.

•  Tioga hosts Section IV, Division V football rival Deposit-Hancock in a key match-up at Haggerty Field.

•  Waverly hits the road for a key Division IV football match-up at Lansing.

•  Tioga volleyball wraps up the regular season at home against Dryden.

SATURDAY (3)

•  The Athens girls and boys play a District 4, Class 3A playoff doubleheader — both playing Shikellamy — at Loyalsock High School.

•  Waverly is in action at the STAC Cross-Country Championships at Oneonta.
