DISTRICT 4 VOLLEYBALL: ATHENS SWEEPS DANVILLE; ADVANCES TO CLASS 3A TITLE MATCH (2024-10-26)
Valley Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — After a hard-fought first set, third-seeded Athens dominated the final two in a sweep of second-seeded Danville here Saturday evening in the semifinals of the District 4, Class 3A volleyball championships.
The Wildcats, now 5-11, won by scores of 25-21, 25-10, and 25-18.
"The ladies played intense tonight," said Athens coach Heather Darrow. "The first-game jitters turned into momentum, creating all out energy to get the job done as a tea.
"From the bench to the court, they all wanted this match," added Darrow. "What a great experience for this team to be a part of."
Athens will square off with top-seeded Shamokin Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Williamsport High School in the Class 3A championship match.
Senior Kassie Babcock led Athens with three service aces, 15 digs, and 14 kills, while senior Keaton Wiles had two aces, 12 digs, seven kills, and one block, and senior Emma Renninger had 16 setter assists and five digs.
Senior Ella Coyle had two aces, and 19 digs for the Wildcats, freshman Ellie Mosher had two aces, five digs, and three kills, senior Sydney Field dished out 11 assists, senior Anna Geisinger added two digs and three kills, senior Gretchen Schmieg recorded three digs, and sophomore Gretchan Hiley chipped in with three kills.
