THE WEEK AHEAD: DISTRICT / SECTION TITLES ON THE LINE, ATHENS HARRIERS AT STATES AS POSTSEASON HITS HIGH GEAR (2024-10-27)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — A trio of Valley teams play for District 4 / Section IV titles this week, and a pair of Athens runners will compete at the PIAA Cross Country Championships as the postseason hits high gear.
The following are all of the events this week, with 9 of 11 being postseason events. The schedule could expand by a game or two if teams advance.
MONDAY (0)There are no events on the schedule.
TUESDAY (3)• Tioga volleyball plays Lansing in a divisional playoff game. The winner advances to play Whitney Point in the IAC Large School championship game.
• Waverly will run in the Last Chance Cross Country Invite at Owego.
• The Waverly girls swim team hosts Chenango Forks in the final regular-season event of the fall.
WEDNESDAY (3)• The Athens boys will play top-seeded Selinsgrove in the District 4, Class 3A championship game at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex.
• Athens volleyball, after a 4-11 regular season, will play Danville for the District 4, Class 3A title at Williamsport High School.
• Tioga is in action at the IAC Cross Country Championships at Marathon.
THURSDAY (0)There are no events on the schedule.
FRIDAY (3)• Athens takes on top-seeded and unbeaten Shamokin in the semifinals of the District 4, Class 4A football playoffs.
• Tioga football can clinch the Section IV, Division VII title with a win at B-G.
• Waverly finishes up the regular season at home against Whitney Point for Homecoming Weekend.
SATURDAY (2)• Athens senior Sara Bronson and sophomore Graham Wanck run at the PIAA, Class AA Cross Country Championships in Hershey.
• The Waverly play Chenango Forks in the Section IV, Class B girls soccer championship game.
