NEW YORK STATE FOOTBALL: WAVERLY REMAINS ATOP CLASS C RANKING; TIOGA MAKES BIG JUMP IN CLASS D (2024-10-30)
Valley Sports ReportSYRACUSE — Waverly remains atop the Class C state rankings, while Tioga made a big jump up the Class D ranks following its lopsided win over fifth-ranked Deposit-Hancock Friday in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association poll.
CLASS CWaverly (7-1) remains No. 1, while Section VI's Salamanca (8-0), which lost to the Wolverines in the state semifinals last year, is second, with Chenango Forks (7-1) third, Section III's General Brown (8-0) is fourth, and East Rochester / Ananda (7-1) is fifth.
Windsor (5-2), Waverly's likely opponent next week in the Section IV, Class C semifinals, is ranked 14th.
CLASS DSection II's Warrensburg-Lake George-Bolton (8-0) is ranked atop Class D, while Section VI's Clymer-Sherman-Panama (6-2), whose only losses are to Waverly and Lackawanna (ranked 8th in Class B), is ranked second.
Tioga (5-3) jumped from 14th to 8th this week following its 56-28 win over fifth-ranked Deposit-Hancock, which dropped to 14th. Tioga's losses are to Waverly, Chenango Forks, and Delhi, which is ranked seventh today.
Section V Avon (8-0), Section III Dolgeville (7-0), and Section V Alexander (7-1) are ranked third through fifth, respectively.
CLASS BMaine-Endwell (8-0) is No. 1 in the Class B rankings, and Owego (7-0) is 10th.
Section XI's Sayville (7-0), Section II's Glens Falls (8-0), Section VI's Pioneer (8-0), and Section IX's Port Jervis (7-1) are ranked second through fifth, respectively.
