THE WEEK AHEAD: POSTSEASON IN FULL SWING IN NEW YORK (2024-11-03)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The fall season is complete in Pa., but the postseason is in full swing in New York with the Section IV football playoffs beginning Friday, volleyball, girls swimming and cross country crowning champions this week, and the Waverly girls playing in their first state playoff game Saturday.
There are eight events on the docket this week with three on Saturday, and two on Thursday. A ninth event is possible Saturday if Tioga finishes in the top two in Class C pool play Thursday.
The following are all of the postseason events this week:
MONDAY (0)There are no games scheduled.
TUESDAY (1)• Tioga hosts Harpursville-Afton in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class C volleyball playoffs.
WEDNESDAY (1)• Waverly will swim at the Section IV, Class B Preliminaries at Maine-Endwell High School.
THURSDAY (2)• Tioga and Waverly are in action at the Section IV Cross Country Championships at Chenango Valley State Park.
• The Section IV, Class C volleyball semi-final pool play will be held at the highest remaining seed, which will be Tioga if it wins Tuesday.
FRIDAY (1)• Waverly will host Windsor in the semifinals of the Section IV, Class C football playoffs.
SATURDAY (3)• Tioga squares off with SVEC at Susquehanna Valley High School in the semifinals of the Section IV, Class D football playoffs.
• Waverly begins action in the New York State Class B Girls Soccer Championships against the winner of Thursday's game between Section I champ Bronxville and Section IX champ Mount Academy at noon at Union-Endicott.
• Waverly swims at the Section IV, Class B Championships at Maine-Endwell High School.
• The Section IV, Class C and A volleyball finals will be held at Tioga High School.
