ON TAP TODAY: WAVERLY HOSTS WINDSOR IN CLASS C SEMIS; TAKES AIM ON THIRD STRAIGHT SECTION TITLE (2024-11-08)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The only game on Friday's docket has Waverly opening the postseason at home against Windsor as it takes aim on a third consecutive Section IV, Class C football championship.
Waverly enters the game at 8-1 and ranked No. 1 in the state, while Windsor is 7-2 and ranked 14th.
The Wolverines are coming off a 42-10 win over Whitney Point, while the Black Knights closed the regular season with a 47-14 win over Susquehanna Valley.
Waverly enters the contest outscoring its opponents by an average of 45.1 to 9.1 points per game, while Windsor had outscored its foes by an average of 40.9 to 17.3.
The Black Knights have played two teams with a winning record in Chenango Forks (8-1) and Tioga (6-3) — and lost to both.
Windsor's seven wins come against teams with a combined record of 21-40.
Windsor is led by senior dual-threat QB Ashton Werner
The Wolverines' only loss was a 42-41 overtime thriller at Maine-Endwell. They posted wins over state-ranked teams in Clymer-Sherman-Panama (No. 1 in Class D), Horseheads (29th in Class A), and Tioga (7th in Class D), and also beat Lansing (honorable mention in Class C).
Sophomore Benny Shaw completed 72.8 percent (83 of 114) of his passes for 1,336 yards, 19 TDs and one interception.
Senior Xavier Watson leads Waverly with 37 receptions for 548 yards, and eight TDs, while senior Kolsen Keathley has 21 catches for 448 yards and five TDs, and junior Daltton Davis has 13 grabs for 204 yards and three TDs.
Senior Fletcher Good leads the Waverly ground game with 588 yards and 13 TDs, while Keathley has 271 yards and three TDs, and junior Cooper Robinson has 215 yards and six TDs. Sophomore Bryce LaForest, coming off the bench, has 324 yards and four TDs.
Kick off is at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
