Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — A very busy Saturday features Tioga football looking to lock up another trip to States, as well as a state playoff soccer game, a Section IV championship volleyball match, and the Section IV girls swimming championships.
FOOTBALL
Section IV Playoffs
Class D Semifinals
3-SVEC (5-4) vs. 2-Tioga (6-3), noon @ Susquehanna Valley H.S.: The Tigers are coming off a 35-28 win over B-G in the final week of the regular season, while the Eagles thumped Schuyler, 47-21.
Tioga will be getting starting QB Jayden Duncanson, and two-way starters Shane Platukis and Logan Bellis back.
"We're going to be as healthy as we can be this week," said Tioga coach Nick Aiello, noting seniors Shea Bailey and Brennan Sindoni are out for the season.
Senior Jake Browne has emerged last Tioga's go-to guy in the backfield. He leads the Tioga ground game with 1,362 yards and 19 TDs on 165 carries, and has 713 yards and nine TDs in the last two games.
SVEC has a pair of running backs in Charlie Hilbert, who rushed for 305 yards and four TDs last week, and Logan Aman, who rushed for four TDs in a game earlier this season, capable of doing a lot of damage.
Tioga has outscored its opponents by an average of 27.7 to 23.6 per game, while SVEC has bested its foes by an average of 26.1 to 22.8.
The Tigers are 4-1 against and have outscored their Class D opponents this season by an average of 37 to 24.2.
In their first meeting this season, Tioga blanked SVEC, 28-0, at S-VE.
GIRLS SOCCER
New York State Playoffs
Class B Quarterfinals
Waverly (12-4) vs. Bronxville (14-5-1), noon at U-E H.S.: The Wolverines topped Chenango Forks, 2-0, in the Section IV championship game last Saturday, while Section I champ Bronxville blanked Section IX champ Mount Academy, 4-0, in the opening round of the state playoffs.

Class D Finals
7-Edison (8-10) at 1-Tioga (13-4), 11 a.m.: Tioga went 5-1 in pool play after a sweep of Harpursville-Afton in the quarterfinals Tuesday, while the Spartans are a true Cinderella story as the seventh seed, having upended second-seeded Walton Tuesday in four sets, and knocking off fourth-seed Trumansburg in a playoff following pool play.
The Tigers swept the Spartans twice during the regular season, and also beat them in both sets of pool play Thursday.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Class B Championships, 2 p.m. at M-E H.S.: Waverly will have all three relays, which posted first-place finishes at the Class B preliminaries Wednesday, and all 12 of its girls in action this afternoon.
Junior Mira Kittle is the top seed in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke after posting first-place finishes at the prelims.
Freshman Lauryn Welles is the top seed in the 100-yard freestyle, with 8th-graders Audrey Kellogg and Megan Atanasoff seeded second and third, respectively, after the Waverly trio swept the top three spots in the event at the prelims. Eighth-grader Ayla Wheeler is the eighth seed.
