NEW YORK STATE GIRLS SOCCER: BRONXVILLE ENDS WAVERLY'S HISTORIC SEASON IN CLASS B QUARTERFINALS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-11-09)

Valley Sports Report
ENDICOTT — Bronxville set the tone with an early goal, and ended Waverly's historic season with a 3-0 win here Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the New York State girls soccer playoffs.

Carson Kochansky scored off a feed from Kalliroi Ladas less than 2 1/2 minutes into the game to give the Broncos a quick 1-0 lead.

"We got down on ourselves after a series of poor decisions and bad executions that led to a goal in the opening minutes of the game," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. "And, we didn’t respond the way we had hoped.

"It was a game that was very reminiscent of our first sectional game against SVEC," she noted. "We were scrambling and losing sight of what we need to do create options.

It just wasn’t our game, and Bronxville was a very impressive opponent," added Hogan. "We got caught watching the ball and losing sight of the field."

The Broncos added to their lead with 3:26 remaining in the first half when Ladas scored off an assist from Caitlin Paisley to make it 2-0.

Ladas added an insurance goal, off an assist from Kochansky, with 10 minutes left in the contest to push the lead to 3-0.

Bronxville had a 21-6 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Claire Clonch recorded 18 saves in net for the Wolverines.

Hogan said her girls have no reason to hang their heads.

"I told the girls we need to reflect on the positives of the season," she said. "They made program history so if there’s anything to take away from this it’s how incredible this season was.

"They have lot of positives to take away from this season on the whole.

"Overall, Coach Berent, myself, their parents, and our town is very impressed and proud of how much these girls have accomplished," added Hogan. "We are already looking forward to next year."

Waverly wraps up the season with a 13-5 record.
