N.Y. STATE CROSS COUNTRY: WAVERLY'S MINAKER, CHAMBERLAIN POST PERSONAL-BEST TIMES AT STATE MEET (3 PHOTOS) (2024-11-16)
Valley Sports ReportQUEENSBURY, N.Y. — Waverly senior Harper Minaker and junior Mackenzie Chamberlain ran personal-best times here Saturday at the New York State Class C Cross Country Championships.
Minaker finished 59th in a time of 21:08.7, and Chamberlain was 67th in 21:12.8.
"Harper and Kenzie’s performance at States checked off the two primary goals they set out to accomplish," said Waverly coach Nate Culver. "They both set career 5K PRs at the State level , and also beat two of the Section lV girls that placed ahead of them at Sectionals.
"I am so proud of their perseverance this season amid all the injuries, pushing and supporting each other as true teammates should.
"Kenzie’s focus and determination to test herself among the best in the state showed the confidence needed to make a return trip next year," noted Culver. "Despite being her debut performance at the State level, she showed all the characteristics of a veteran runner — composed and strong.
"Harper’s senior year of Cross Country culminated in a perfect transition to the collegiate level," added Culver. "All she has endured, achieved and learned will carry over, aiding to what I expect will be a very memorable and fulfilling experience to come."
Hastings senior Caitlin Thomas won state gold in a time of 17:53.8.
Lansing senior Kathleen Sullivan was Section IV's top finisher, clocking in at 20:25.7 to finish 42nd.
