THE WEEK AHEAD: FALL SEASON COMES TO END THIS WEEKEND WITH STATE SWIM MEET, VOLLEYBALL FINAL FOUR (2024-11-18)

THE VALLEY — The 2024 fall sports season draws to a conclusion this weekend with a contingent of five Waverly girls at the New York State Swimming & Diving Championships, and the Tioga volleyball team returning to the state semi-final pool play for the first time since 2015.

GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING

New York State Championships @ Webster Aquatic Center:
Waverly junior Mira Kittle will swim in a pair of individual events, and will swim on the 200-yard medley and free relays.

The 200 medley relay team of Kittle, junior Olivia Cheresnowsky, freshman Lauryn Welles, and 8th-grader Natalie Steck won the Section IV, Class B title in a time of 1:51.05.

The foursome of Welles, and 8th-graders Aubrey Kellogg, Megan Atanasoff, and Ayla Wheeler won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:40.3 at the Class B meet.

Kittle, Cheresnowsky, Welles, and Atanasoff will likely swim in the  200 free relay at States.

Day 1 of the state swim meet begins Friday at 10 a.m.

VOLLEYBALL
New York State Championships
Class C Semifinals @ Cool Insuring Arena, Glen's Falls:
Tioga (14-4), ranked sixth in the state, takes the court Saturday at 8 a.m.

Tioga will open pool play against top-ranked and three-time defending champion Portville (20-0). Also in the bracket are second-ranked Mount Academy (21-1) and 10th-ranked Stillwater (22-2).

The top two advance to the championship match Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
