WYALUSING — Senior Addison Westbrook and sophomore Ryleigh Judson scored seven points apiece, and freshman Maci Wheeler canned a 3-pointer to fuel a fourth-quarter run that opened up a close game in Waverly's season-opening, 51-38, win over Wyalusing here Saturday night in non-league girls basketball action.

Judson scored four points, and Westbrook added a 3-pointer to help the the Wolverines to a 9-8 lead after the first eight minutes.

Westbrook, Judson, and junior Kaitlyn Sutton each knocked down 3-pointers in the second quarter, but Waverly only had a 13-12 advantage in the stanza to take a 22-20 lead into the half time locker room.

Wheeler, freshman Kendall Rockwell, and Judson scored Waverly's only buckets of the third quarter, but the Wolverine defense yielded only a Chloe Bennett 3-pointers, and used the 6-3 spurt to take a 28-23 lead into the final eight minutes.

The fourth quarter turned into a bit of a track meet, punctuated by several trips to the free-throw line.

Westbrook scored a pair of buckets early in the final stanza, and added a 3-pointer later, while Judson canned a 3-pointer and was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line as Waverly outscored Wyalusing, 23-15, in the closing eight minutes to win by 13.

Judson led Waverly with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Westbrook scored 15 points, including two 3-pointers.

Rockwell added six points in the win for the Wolverines, while Wheeler chipped in with five points.

Alysha Potts, who was 9-for-13 from the free-throw line, led Wyalusing with 15 points, and Bennett added 10.

Wyalusing made 18 of 25 attempts from the free-throw line, while Waverly was 6 of 12.

The Wolverines, however, canned seven 3-pointers to the Rams' two.

Waverly returns to action Saturday against Corning at the Elmira College High School Shootout.
