NTL SWIMMING: ATHENS GIRLS TOP TUNKHANNOCK IN SEASON-OPENER; TRIPLE-WINNER PETTITT BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD IN BOYS' LOSS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-12-04)

ATHENS — Juniors Elizabeth Denlinger and Evelyn Panek led the Athens girls to a win over Tunkhannock Wednesday afternoon in non-league swimming action, while sophomore Brayden Pettitt was a triple-winner, including a school-record performance in a Wildcat loss.

GIRLS
Athens 95, Tunkhannock 74

Denlinger and Panek each won four events, and junior Olivia Thompson was a triple-winner to lead the Wildcats to a 95-74 win over Tunkhannock.

Denlinger won the 200-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 2:17.42, and senior Elizabeth Talada was second in 2:28.68.

Denlinger also won the 100-yard breaststroke in a district-qualifying time of 1:20.00, and junior Madeline Henderson was third in 1:32.57.

Evelyn Panek led a sweep in the 50-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 26.72 seconds, while Thompson was second in a district-qualifying time of 28.39 seconds, and sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard was third in 31.36 seconds.

Panek also won the 100-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 1:02.34, and junior Kayla Marshall was third in 1:10.26.

Panek and Denlinger teamed with Thompson and Marshall to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:54.04. The same foursome teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:32.43.

Thompson won the 100-yard backstroke in a district-qualifying time of 1:15.42.

Senior Elizabeth Talada won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:52.97.

Leonard finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:26.88.

Henderson was third in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:58.53, and sophomore Kaylee Bolt finished third in the 1-meter dive with a six-dive score of 162.4 points.

BOYS
Tunkhannock 108, Athens 74

Pettitte was a triple-winner, and senior Ethan Hicks was a double-winner, but Tunkhannock used superior depth in a 108-74 win.

Pettitt won the 100-yard breaststroke in a school-record time of 59.51 seconds, eclipsing the mark of 1:01.38 set by Jeff Gap In 2017.  Junior Ty Lezak finished third in a district-qualifying time of 1:15.32.

Pettitt also won the 200-yard IM in a district-qualifying time of 2:06.04.

Ethan Hicks won the 200-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 1:53.3. He also won the 100-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 50.34 seconds.

Pettitt teamed with sophomore Eli Hicks, and seniors Josh Leonard and Ryan Gorman to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:47.15

Leonard finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in a district-qualifying time of 1:02.09.

Leonard was also second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:12.82, and sophomore Jacob Shores was third in 1:18.51.

Eli Hicks finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 23.96 seconds

Shores finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 5:58.25.

Senior Ronel Ankam swam district-qualifying times in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races.

Athens returns to action this weekend at the Central Columbia Invitational at Bloomsburg University.
