NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS ROLLS TO 41-15 WIN OVER WILLIAMSON (2024-12-13)

ATHENS — Athens used a strong defensive effort to built a 24-point halftime lead on its way to a 41-15 win over Williamson here Friday night in NTL girls basketball action.

"It was an all-around great defensive effort that set the tone for us," said Athens coach Kelly Allen.

The Athens defense allowed just a 3-pointer by Kenna Thomas in the first quarter, while senior Addy Wheeler drained two 3-pointers and scored eight points, and Sara Bronson added five points, including a 3-pointer, to take a 17-3 lead after the first eight minutes.

Wheeler drained another 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter, while Bronson added four points, and freshman Allison Kemp canned a 3-pointer in a 14-4 run that pushed the Wildcat advantage to 31-7 lead at the halftime intermission.

The Athens D allowed just one bucket — by Olivia Meisner — in the third quarter, while Wheeler scored four points in an 8-2 spurt that gave the Wildcats a 39-9 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Wheeler led Athens with 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and nine steals, while Bronson had nine points, three assists, and four steals, and Kemp added five points, four rebounds, and four steals.

Senior Sophia Fairchild chipped in with four points, while senior Kelsie Noel had four rebounds, and sophomore McKenna Jarvis added three boards.

Thomas led Williamson with five points, while Meisner and Olivia Nolan added four points apiece.

Athens, now 2-1, returns to action Wednesday at home against North Penn-Liberty. Game time is 6 p.m., and it's varsity only.
