CONKLIN, N.Y. — Waverly raced out to an 18-point first-quarter lead, hit a lull in the middle two quarters, then finished strong in a 46-27 win over Susquehanna Valley in STAC junior varsity boys basketball action.

Jack Pipher scored nine points in the first quarter, while Sam Cheresnowsky added four points, and Chase Wheeler knocked down a 3-pointer to fuel a 22-4 game-opening blitz.

The Sabers outscored the Wolverines, 10-7, during the middle two quarters to close the gap to 29-18 entering the fourth quarter.

Pipher pumped in eight more points, and Cheresnowsky added four points in a 17-9 game closing run.

Pipher led Waverly with 19 points and four steals, while Cheresnowsky had eight points, four rebounds, and four steals, and Braiden Judson had six points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

Chase Wheeler had five points, three rebounds, and four steals in the win, while Axel Murray pulled down eight rebounds, Collin Wheeler grabbed six boards, and Drew Croft had three steals.

David Hershey led SV with nine points.

Waverly returns to action tonight at Ithaca.
